It’s a very true statement. No amount of camera gear will ever replace the skills acquired from constant practice and good shooting technique. Don’t look at this list and think for a minute that it means anything. It doesn’t. A good photographer can shoot with anything. That said, I get asked by my clients what I shoot with therefore this page exists for the curious.
I am not loyal to any one brand, I just happened to shoot with Canon gear right now. I have friends that shoot Nikon and have shot Nikon myself but am currently invested in Canon’s EOS line. Both companies offer great products in my opinion. Ultimately, gear has to be reliable, robust and able to withstand challenging environments with no failures. You have to be comfortable with it, everything should be second nature. That split second you are fiddling with something or trying to get around a failure could be the shot you’ve waited for all day. I make every effort to be ready to capture that moment. So I take a lot of time testing new gear and making sure it’s what I need for a particular shoot. I never use a client’s shoot to “field test” new equipment.
My gear gets upgraded when the need arises so this list changes periodically. The core elements remain the same…camera bodies, lenses, lighting, and accessories. Different jobs require different gear so not every item comes on every shoot.
